About the author

MARCO AMBROSECCHIA (Italy, 1977) is the artist, theorist and founder of Espansionismo (Expansionism), a Movement that was born with the Art Manifesto presented in his degree thesis [Marco Ambrosecchia, ESPANSIONISMO - verso il Diffusionismo Cosmico dell’Umanità attraverso l’Arte (EXPANSIONISM - towards the Cosmic Dissemination of  Humanity through Art), Università degli Studi di Palermo, Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, Department of Art, Music and Performance, academic year 2006-2007], which was awarded Summa Cum Laude, the highest possible academic achievement, which acknowledgement was also given to the theory of all, articulating itself in a theory of knowledge and in a cosmogony; constituting the theoretical base of the Art Manifesto of Espansionismo; Marco Ambrosecchia, in fact, is the one who, being also a theorist, has elaborated that complex philosophical system, a text rich in images of Works of Art created by the artist himself. A paramount judgement which has, therefore, indisputably underlined, definitely and publicly, the highest scientific level of the theoretical-artistic foundations of Espansionismo, and so established the prestige duly attributed to it.

The book was awarded by a committee chaired by Paolo Emilio Carapezza, Professor Emeritus and internationally acclaimed musicologist; and since expansionist thought assigns to Music a fundamental role within the context of the theory, this affirmation of value is, therefore, supreme and embraces Espansionismo in its entirety. The committee that awarded, included among its members Professor Eva Di Stefano, preeminent art historian and critic; another member was the famous Professor Amalia Collisani - former Head of Aglaia - Department of Greek, Latin and Musical Studies. Tradition and Modernity - Università degli Studi di Palermo - Faculty of Arts and Philosophy (since 2011 Fieri-Aglaia - Department of Philosophy, Philology, Arts, History, Criticism of Knowledge) - who endorsed the epochal dimension of Espansionismo in a letter of presentation to the institutional world printed on the letterhead of the University. And it is thanks to the above that Theory, Art Manifesto and the resulting creations are thus already historicized at university level.

For reading of the texts themselves, it is referred to the book authored by Marco Ambrosecchia himself, entitled Espansionismo, verso il Diffusionismo Cosmico e Pluridimensionale dell’Umanità attraverso l’Arte e la Rivelazione dello Sfavillante Istante nella Musica (Expansionism, towards the Cosmic and Pluridimensional Dissemination of Humanity through Art and Revelation of the Sparkling Instant in Music), published by Edizioni ESPANSIONISMO and kept at the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Roma (National Central Library of Rome).

With regards to the production within the ambit of visual arts, two graphic projects for two monumental Works are kept at the MAXXI (National Museum of 21st Century Art) in Rome, the largest museum dedicated to contemporaneity at a national level and one of the most important museums in the world.

Exclusively for publicity, Marco Ambrosecchia was also selected amongst thousands of artists to represent Italy in the Enciclopedia Artisti Contemporanei - D’Arte (Encyclopedia Contemporary Artists - D’Arte), Monza, STM ITALIA srl, 2009; it has been distributed at national and international level.

In wanting to highlight the exceptionality of Espansionismo, it must be pointed out that in the history of humanity it has never occurred that the theorist who elaborated a theory of all, articulating itself within a cosmogony and a theory of knowledge, would coincide with the creator of an art manifesto deriving from that same theory of all, and with the artist himself; and that these three roles would coincide with the founder of a Movement placing its own foundations on the principles of the same philosophical system.

In fact, «Marco Ambrosecchia and Espansionismo» already considered as historical sprout of the 21st century, was next to names that constituted the history of thinking and of art in the 20th century, one of the topics of a very important thesis at the Università degli Studi di Palermo, Faculty of Educational Sciences, Psychology Department (Nadia La Pira, Transgenerazionale, Al di là dello Spazio e del Tempo…Un Viaggio sincronico tra i legami nascosti dell’Albero Genealogico, Università degli Studi di Palermo, Faculty of Educational Sciences, Psychology Department, academic year 2007-2008).

With his prestigious essay on Espansionismo and its relationship with contemporary art, published in the glossy magazine Benvenuta Italia, Marco Ambrosecchia has also been present at the Italian Cultural Institute of New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington and the Italian Cultural Institute of London.

On October 6, 2011, Marco Ambrosecchia and Espansionismo were presented in New York - Manhattan, to the local jet set by Mike Paul, one of the most successful PRs in America and famous throughout the world who has worked for many famous names such as Aretha Franklin, the State University of New York, Goldman Sachs, Mercedes-Benz, Timberland and the African Film Festival, and many other famous personalities, companies and events. Antonella Purpura, Director of the Museum of Modern Art of Palermo, was present as a speaker at the International Press Conference organized by Mike Paul; the museum she directs staged Vanessa Beecroft’s internationally acclaimed VB62 performance. Acknowledging the objective extraordinariness of Espansionismo and Marco Ambrosecchia, Mike Paul decided to include the artist and Espansionismo in his famous blog alongside some of the most important names in the world. The event, held in Manhattan, in affluent SoHo, was mentioned by one of the most important Italian portals of New York, nyc-site/com, in the art section, alongside some of the most famous names and events on the international arts scene such as Maurizio Cattelan and the exhibitions organized at the MoMA and Guggenheim Museum.

After being lauded in Manhattan, Milan welcomes the famous artist. In the wake of the splash it made in America, on February 14, 2013, the exhibition MARCO AMBROSECCHIA | ESPANSIONISMO was inaugurated in partnership with PricewaterhouseCoopers at the renowned, luxurious Spazio Espositivo PwC Milano, designed by Renzo Piano. Art on canvas, sculptures and architectural installations by Marco Ambrosecchia were placed on display. Panorama published a review on the exhibit.

As soon as the doors of the elite Milanese event had closed, those of the Italian public institutions opened up to the exhibits of this visionary artist, both at Bari’s Pinacoteca Provinciale and its Palazzo della Provincia. It was thus that another smash success with an international impact followed suit with those already achieved when the exhibition MARCO AMBROSECCHIA | ESPANSIONISMO was inaugurated on November 3, 2014, in Bari. There the artist’s works stepped in among the masterpieces of this celebrated museum, which houses superb exemplars of art by Giovanni Bellini, Antonio and Bartolomeo Vivarini, Paris Borbon, Paolo Veronese, Jacopo Tintoretto, Palma il Giovane, Andrea Celesti, Giuseppe De Nittis, Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo, Filippo De Pisis, Giorgio Morandi, Lorenzo Viani, Felice Casorati, Armando Spadini, Massimo Campigli, Pino Pascali, Piero Dorazio, Marino di Teana, Emilio Isgrò, Ugo Attardi, Corrado Cagli, Adriana Pincherle, Titina Maselli, Giosetta Fioroni, Carlo Mattioli, Umberto Mastroianni, and others. La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno published a review on the exhibit.

The public institutions organized yet another event for this artist in Rome, Italy, on February 21, 2017, inaugurating the MARCO AMBROSECCHIA | ESPANSIONISMO exhibit against the splendid backdrop of the Vittoriano, one of the world’s major exhibition venues where celebrated artists of all eras have had their masterpieces placed on display. Il ManifestoIl TempoIl Fatto Quotidiano, and others, published a review on the exhibit, and it was also featured in a special on Rai News. The exhibit was sponsored by Giuseppe Di Maria S.p.A.

These assumptions, regarding the affirmation of supreme merit and value, reflect their consequences on the artist’s production as a whole.
