Simply put this is the best book in the series to this point, and contends for best book in the entire series, though I have to say that the last 4 in the series are all utterly fantastic!
Don't get me wrong, I still loved the first two books, but this book was a turning point for me in the series from liked to loved.
For me Butcher's writing really settles in and get's a laser lock on greatness around book 3 of not only the Alera series, but the Dresden Files as well... and from there on out he just knocks them out of the park.
Tavi's story, as well as those of the new supporting characters in this book is fantastic!

Finally got around to starting this series, am a Dresden Files fan and own them all. This was was huge fun and left me feeling better as most of his books do. I can't imagine anyone reading this and not liking it. I'm going to buy the rest of them now. Keep up the great work Jim and never let them rush you. They are worth waiting for, lol

I have maybe 2 to 3 authors that I will read no matter the spun tail. Jim Butcher is one of those authors. I love his writing style and smart characters make is books worth every minute of my time. The only issue I have is not knowing when to put a book down so I can get a little bit of sleep.
