Ex-FBI profiler River Ryland still suffers from PTSD after a case went horribly wrong. Needing a fresh start, she moves to St. Louis to be near her ailing mother and opens a private investigation firm with her friend and former FBI partner, Tony St. Clair. They're soon approached by a grieving mother who wants them to find out what happened to her teenaged son, who disappeared four years ago. River knows there's almost no hope the boy is still alive, but his mother needs closure, and River and Tony need a case, no matter how cold it might be.

But as they follow the boy's trail, which gets more complicated at every turn, they find themselves in the path of a murderer determined to punish anyone who gets in his way. As River and Tony race to stop him before he kills again, an even more dangerous threat emerges, stirring up the past that haunts River and plotting an end to her future.

Wow! This is my first book by Nancy Mehl & can’t wait to read more. I love a good psychological suspense & this book was definitely it. From the get go I was hooked & ended up devouring it. I enjoyed the friendship between River & Tony. They both carry baggage yet work well together & are a support to each other. There’s a hint of romance I look forward to seeing play out in the future. The faith element is woven beautifully & naturally throughout the story. An exciting start to a new series!

This book is a great start to a new series, and it is filled with suspense, faith and information about mental illnesses. River Ryland and Tony St. Clair are believable and relatable characters who left the FBI to open their own detective agency. In doing so, they encounter a serial killer and a young boy missing for years. There is fast-paced, non-stop action that kept me totally engaged and lots of twists to fool me, too. I loved this book and look forward to the next one. Opinions are mine.

This is book one in the Ryland and St. Clair series, so it is a perfect place to start. This book grabs your attention from the start. It is full of mystery, suspense, friendship, heartache and more. I love the writing style of Nancy Mahl, she does an amazing job at developing her characters, dialogue and plot. I look forward to reading more from this series. If you like a series that leads into another one you will love this one. If you like one to be all cleaned up and done, well.....I would s
