Juliane Koepcke

Juliane Margaret Beate Koepcke, is a German-Peruvian mammalogist who specialises in bats. The daughter of German zoologists Maria and Hans-Wilhelm Koepcke, lightning struck the 1971 LANSA Flight 508 where she became the sole survivor of the crash. She fell 3,000 m while strapped to her seat and suffered numerous injuries. She survived 11 days alone in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest until she rescued herself after finding a local lumberjack camp.
