Julius H. Schoeps was born in Djursholm, Sweden, in 1942. Since 1991, he has been a professor of modern history at the University of Potsdam, where he also directs the Moses Mendelssohn Center for European Jewish Studies. From 1993 to 1997 he served as founding director of The Vienna Jewish Museum. Among his numerous publications on German-Jewish history are Theodor Herzl, 1904, Wenn ihr wollt, ist es kein Maerchen and Deutsch-juedische Symbiose oder Die missglueckte Emanzipation. He has coedited various publications including Neues Lexikon des Judentums.
