Phineas Taylor Barnum (Bethel, Connecticut, 5 July 1810-Bridgeport, Connecticut, 7 April 1891) was an American businessman, politician and circus performer, best remembered for his famous entertainment shenanigans and for founding the Barnum & Bailey Circus, which later merged with the Ringling Brothers Circus to form the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Although Barnum was also an author, publisher, philanthropist and even a politician, he said his only goal was 'to have his pockets full of money'.
