Robert M. Place is the designer and illustrator of: The Alchemical Tarot and The Angels Tarot, which are both published by HarperCollins and have received international acclaim particularly for their insight into the mystical nature of the Tarot and their skillful and illuminating graphics. He is the designer, illustrator, and author of The Alchemical Tarot: Renewed, Editions 2-4, The Buddha Tarot; The Tarot of the Saints (which was awarded second place in Sideline/Interactive at the 2002 International New Age Trade Show); The Vampire Tarot, published by St. Martins Press; and The Tarot of the Sevenfold Mystery, which is published under his own label, Hermes Publications. Beside the books that accompany each of his decks, he is the author of The Tarot: History, Symbolism, and Divination, which was a Book-of-the-Month Club selection, and which Booklist, The magazine of the American Library Association, has said, "may be the best book ever written on... the tarot." He is also the author of, Alchemy and the Tarot, The Fool's Journey, Astrology and Divination, Magic and Alchemy, and Shamanism. He was the curator of "The Fool's Journey," an exhibition on the History, Art, & Symbolism of the Tarot, at the Los Angeles Craft and Folk Art Museum, and he was the guest of honor, cutting the ribbon at the opening, of the Tarot Museum in Riola, Italy. His facsimile of the earliest printed Italian woodcut Tarot is included in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
