A former staff member of the New York Times Beijing bureau, he contributes regularly to Chicago Public Radio, the Chicago Tribune, Fortune.com, and the New York Times. A recipient of a PEN Translation Fund Award, his translations have appeared in Asia Literary Review, Harper's magazine, and Paris Review. He is the author of A Death in the Lucky Holiday Hotel. He lives in Chicago. Juan Castilla Plaza is an English teacher. He specializes in translations from English to Spanish.
