My initial inspiration to write came with a realisation that my life, and those of my ancestors, have been anything but ‘normal’ or ‘run-of-the-mill’. I had the good fortune to originate within a very loving family, though that was not to last for long. At very early and tender age I was rudely, unceremoniously, and unexpectedly thrown into a very cruel world. Abuse, torture, violence and disappointment became my constant companions. That is not to say all was bad, of course, it was not. There were some light-hearted fun times I enjoyed. Some with the few friends I have known though life and others with total but, well-meaning, strangers. I have experienced war, with all its horrors, as well as individual abuse. Nevertheless, most likely due to my mama’s care and teaching, I am fortunate, though some may say otherwise, to be the owner of a resilient spirit. Despite all the odds I have survived. I came to authoring later in life, prior to which I undertook several different occupations. Among these have been laboratory assistant, night hospital orderly, machinist in a clothing factory, and many others until I finally found a niche in the world of public houses and night clubs as a barmaid and waitress. Not something I took to naturally. These, especially the latter, may not have been glamorous but combined with another two jobs, they provided a minimal income that allowed me to care for and bring up my son. Matters were never easy and regrettably, I did face further abuse but I am a survivor and am here to share with you. I write for two primary reasons: to ensure our unique tales are not lost to posterity, and to hopefully, inspire and help others who have been through, or may be facing, similar experiences. If I can get through and go on to have a reasonably meaningful life, so may they with the right encouragement.
