Roth writes this novel with the same easy going writing style and vivid descriptions that we’ve come to appreciate in this series. I had a much harder time staying focussed on this one compared to the first two novels in the series. It was still a well done novel but was missing the ‘can’t put it down’ quality that both Divergent & Insurgent had. Throughout the novel I was torn between putting the book down and going to do something else because I couldn’t quite get fully into it and not being able to put it down because I’d hit one of the pockets where the storyline rocketed forward. Emotions run high in this novel while beliefs and perceptions are thoroughly tested. The real life possibilities are both frightening and endless. The biology and genetics behind it are quite interesting but the implications are boundless. I found myself questioning some longstanding beliefs I had about certain characters in this one. The way in which they were portrayed changes, sometimes only in minute ways but enough that it makes you rethink everything. For example, the huge shift in personality when Four officially starts referring to himself as Tobias completely changes the relationsh

THIS. BOOK. IS. THE. BOMB! The way the story turns and twists from the other two is incredible. The fact that (spoiler alert sorry) Tris dies near the end is so sad. I cried so hard, both for her death and Tobias' grief. 10/10

I decided to wait a couple days after reading Allegiant to write a review to let it sink in... but I am still left feeling stunned, let-down, & disappointed. It was not simply due to THE SHOCKING TWIST that left me speechless, the entire book fell short. It felt like another author wrote this book. Divergent & Insurgent were exceptionally written. Roth created such strong protagonists & antagonists, she developed a world that I could literally see, fell, & hear, & most of all she created an unbreakable bond between Tris & Tobias. Allegiant lacked all the energy, power, & heart that were in the first two. The world beyond the fence & the reason for the faction system was a slap in the face to the whole story. The dynamic characters that were well developed in the first two seemed to become static & flat. Tobias especially disappointed me, he was no longer the dedicated fighter who threw knives at Tris's head & shot Eric, he was whiny & weak. Christina & Uriah did not appear true to character either, & the reveal about Tris's mother was ridiculous. The dual point of views was poorly done as I could not tell the difference between Tris & Tobias. Be prepared to be let down.
