I loved the Imperial Radch trilogy so it really hurts to say that this book is a mess. There are just far too many characters, places, concepts and factions being juggled in the air at once with more revealed on every page, each with a new and stranger sounding name. It's not helped by a poor choice in gender neutral pronouns that seems to result in entire sentences departing the English language altogether. (Nothing against the idea but these just don't read well, Becky Chambers' used better ones for example) I know this is meant to be sci-fi and it's supposed to be a strange alien culture but this is just impenetrable.

I totally enjoyed this book. In many ways not the same as the previous books in this universe, but the characterization was just as strong and thoroughly engaging.
