About this ebook

'Read this... Two very different men fight, play games and nearly lose their lives.' The Times
When James Cracknell and Ben Fogle decided to compete in the Atlantic Rowing Race, they thought they knew what awaited them: nearly three thousand miles of empty ocean, stormy weather and colossal physical stress. But their epic journey would become a living hell that tested the strength of every fibre of their being. Forty nine days later James and Ben were the first pair to cross the finishing line. They had pushed themselves physically, psychologically and emotionally to the limit. They had survived without water rations, lost the few clothes they had in a freak wave, capsized, hallucinated, played games, wept, fought, grown beards, nursed blisters and rowed 2,930 miles. They will never be the same again.

Loved this book. I've read Race to the Pole a few times and was delighted to discover there was a book about Ben and James' Atlantic crossing. I find the style of jumping between the two writers to be really engaging. In this one, unlike Race to the Pole, they both often wrote about the exact same scene, so you find yourself jumping back to the start of that moment to read it from the other's perspective. This did tend to lead to two often very different takes on the same moment, leaving you unsure as to whose was the closest to reality, but that just added to the tension between the two. While you may think there's not much to write about when rowing across the Atlantic, this book leaves you on the edge of your seat throughout.

Very exciting book. Couldn't put it down! A couple of brave chaps getting on a small craft not knowing each other to undertake such a huge task. Appreciated the honesty with which it was written. Happy they survived the horrendous capsize. Will recommend it to others.
