Performance - the title suggests theatre and there's the connection to the murder. There's mystery and intrigue and the police characters come into the story like old friends. Moving between the police work and their home life, there's much revealed about relationships, friendships, and family - and some lovely descriptive passages to release the building tension. This book stands alone quite nicely, but for those of us who have been following Kate's story we get to learn a little more about her background and her hopes for the future - and of course her relationship with Anderton is moving along nicely as they move in together. This is a great read, with an unusual but believable plot, and it holds your interest from beginning to end.

A body of a young female is discovered in a park in the town of Abbeyford by a dog walker. Without any identification, and no obvious motive D.I. Kate Redman with her team start the investigation. But why is so little known about the victim, what is her relationship to her family. What are her secrets. Another entertaining and well-written crime story with its cast of likeable and varied characters. A good addition to the series which can easily be read as a standalone story.
