Mit dem Ende des landesherrlichen Kirchenregiments 1918 standen die evangelischen Kirchen in Deutschland vor umwälzenden Herausforderungen. Es galt, neue rechtliche und organisatorische Strukturen zu schaffen und ein Verhältnis zur jungen Demokratie zu entwickeln. Hierbei waren die Probleme der nun eigenständig gewordenen Landeskirchen durchaus different. Revitalisiert wurde zudem die Idee eines Zusammenschlusses der Einzelkirchen, die in der Gründung des Deutschen Evangelischen Kirchenbundes 1922 konkret wurde. Der vorliegende Band widmet sich den institutionellen Veränderungen anhand konkreter territorialgeschichtlicher Betrachtungen. Neben exemplarisch ausgewählten Landeskirchen Süd-, West- und Mitteldeutschlands liegt ein besonderer Fokus auf den Veränderungen für die deutschen Auslandsgemeinden im Baltikum, in Polen und Rumänien. Die Beiträge gehen zum überwiegenden Teil auf Vorträge zurück, die im Rahmen der gleichnamigen Tagung im August 2019 in Weimar gehalten wurden. [Territorial Church without Territorial Sovereign. New Beginnings and Continuities of the Protestant Churches in the Period of the Weimar Republic] With the end of the sovereign church regime in 1918, the Protestant churches in Germany were faced with revolutionary challenges. New legal and organizational structures had to be created and a relationship with the young democracy had to be developed. In this context, the problems of the regional churches, which had now become independent, were quite different. In addition, the idea of a union of the individual churches was revived, which became concrete in the founding of the German Evangelical Church Confederation in 1922. The present volume is dealing with the institutional changes on the basis of concrete territorial-historical studies. In addition to exemplarily selected regional churches of southern, western and central Germany, a special focus is laid on the changes for the German congregations abroad in the Baltic States, Poland and Romania.
