Firstly I am a CB fan. The book draws you effortlessly into a world of real pain and beauty. The characters are rounded, flawed and you get to care about them very quickly. Some passages will stay with me for the rest of my life ie the scene with the children and the grave. The images will and themes will make me come back to this book to read it again at a later date and I look forward to it.

This is a story I stumbled across by chance & loved. It is also the book I used to help pull my mother into the world of fantasy when all she'd read were mysteries, spy novels, biographies & icky romance drivel. This will always be one of my favourites.

Highly original horror fantasy of epic proportions that I first read over 25 years ago. Loved it then and love in now. I wish they would make a film of it now that the technology is available to create the scenes so vividly described...
