About this ebook

His ship is lost and his crew is missing...

Oberon is a world at war, torn apart by open rebellion. Hayden Kaine and his ship's human/AI hybrid, Cora, find themselves caught up in the planetary conflict when their ship, Scimitar, is destroyed, and they are marooned on the planet.

But, is the ship really destroyed?

Damaged in the crash of their escape pod, Cora claims to hear Scimitar calling to her across interdimensional space. Fearing that she is going mad, Kaine must cross rebel-held territory to reach the government forces who can give him access to the technology he needs to save his only surviving friend.

But he is conflicted when he learns the unsettling truth about the Confederation his family has served for generations.

Torn between saving Cora and righting a wrong perpetrated on countless worlds, Hayden Kaine must make the most difficult decision of his life.

Kaine's Rebellion is the fourth book in the Shattered Empire series.

Kaine's Rebellion reads almost like a relaunch as it starts with Kaine alone on a planet in the desert. He starts to recall what happened to him leading up to his apparent crashlanding in the desert. The Scimitar was attacked and Kaine was jettisoned in an escape pod with Cora. Unfortunately the humanoid form of Cora is damaged and her power supply is failing, so Kaine needs to recharge Cora to save here as well as try and locate the Scimitar and its crew. Meanwhile the planet is run by a despot and a small band of rebels are attempting to overthrow the current regimen. Kaine gets involved in the rebels and learns about their motivations and eventually joins the rebelion (hence the name of the book). At the same time, the United Earth Forces are closing in.... Will Kaine save Cora, reunite with his crew and will the rebellion win? It is a pleasure to rejoin Kaine and his story. Initially the apparent relaunch was a little jarring, but the story is so well crafted that any qualms were soon quashed and it becomes clear it is more of a continuation than a relaunch. Once again the reader is pulled back into the exciting, dramatic, and griipping world of Shattered Empire. I originally received this novel as a complementary copy and I am submitting this review of my violation. I actually enjoyed the novel so much that I purchased it from the author's own website.

About the author

D.M.(Doug) Pruden worked for 35 years in the petroleum industry as a geophysicist. For most of his life, he has been plagued with stories banging around inside his head that demanded to be let out into the world. He currently spends his time as an empty nester in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with his long-suffering wife of many years, and a far too energetic cavapoo puppy named Lucy. When he isn’t writing science fiction stories, he likes to spend his time playing with his grandchildren and working on improving his golf handicap.
