About this ebook

Welcome to Hathaway House. Rehab Center. Safe Haven. Second chance at life and love.

When Navy SEAL Cole Muster entered Hathaway House weeks ago, he was doing well. His meds were under control; his recovery was progressing at a safe rate, and he was getting better every day. But, left to his own devices, Cole pushed himself too hard and took himself off his medication—and ended up causing himself harm and earned himself time in a hospital. Now he’s returned, hoping that Hathaway House can get him back on track one more time.

RN Sandra Denver feels responsible for what happened to Cole. She was his nurse and should have realized that he wasn’t ready to leave Hathaway House. His setback was her fault, or at least she could have prevented it, if she’d made sure he was taking those meds she gave him daily. Now that he’s back, she’s finding it hard to trust not just him but herself. And she understands, when Cole has a hard time trusting himself too, it won’t make his recovery any easier.

For Cole’s sake, Sandra must help him overcome his stumbling blocks as well as her own. With any luck, they’ll find a second chance at recovery, for both of them, at Hathaway House.

I found this story quite emotional, almost heartbreaking at times but also very inspirational. No matter how broken these guys feel they still deep down have that core that makes them fight to survive whatever gets thrown in their path, is it easy? no anything but. They have to dig deep and really want the recovery with every part of their soul, then they have to learn to trust their teams. The biggest battle isn't getting the strength back or any of the physical side its the psychological that causes the most issues, opening up and talking about anything and everything on and in their minds, definitely not something these strong tough military guys find an easy task. But then sometimes the women working with them don't always find it easy either. This series gives some insight into just a small portion of the battles fought by those in services and injured, yes this story is fiction but reading it feels as though there is a base of truth somewhere, maybe the author knows or has experienced these problems at some stage either directly or just by connection. Either that or a lot of deep research was done, because I can imagine the reactions and problems to be very real. The scenery and animal side of the story are beautiful, it sounds like a place I would love to know, volunteer or work at, a calming and healing place containing all the best elements for maximum recovery for human and animals. Absolutely loving this amazing series and feel blessed to be able to read it.

Cole is the main character in book three, and he almost torpedoes his chance at Hathaway House. The amount of research Dale Mayer does for her books must be intense and time consuming. I’m reading the book and it hits me.. Holy cadoodles.. There is so much research that must be involved in a book like this. But, I digress.. hahahaha. The book is incredible. I finished book two and dove right into book three. More time spent with the members of Hathaway House, and with the introductions to more staff members. This time a Nurse is added into the mix. Cole finally realizes how his actions have affected other people. A bitter pill to swallow (no pun intended), and has to work through that along with his recovery. I’m hooked on this series, and can’t wait to see what happens in the upcoming books. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is the third book in the Hatherway house series and although you would gain more enjoyment from starting at the beginning this can be read as a standalone, The author cleverly incorporates old friends from previous series whilst introducing new ones that we come to love. Cole was admitted to Hatherway House to be rehabilitated after losing part of a leg and acquiring other injuries in a land mine accident whilst on a mission. He was keen to be transferred to the sanctuary having heard how well his friend Brock had improved there. He was only there for a short while when he collapsed and had to be readmitted to hospital. Cole thought that he knew what his body needed and that wasn't drugs, unbeknown to everyone he had omitted taking the prescribed drugs when Sandra, his nurse, dispensed them. He was thankfully given another chance and when back at the sanctuary he took all the advice given from his team and Brock and he started on a very bumpy road to recovery. He had a lot of guilt that Sandra was blamed for his omitting his medication and that was impeding his progress. After a long hard struggle and glitches along the way Cole began to improve and a gentle romance grew with him and his nurse. This is not an action packed story but one of the struggles both mental and physical that injured military personnel face, their injuries are life changing because most of them have only ever known the confines of military life. Dale Mayer has covered this in a very sympathetic way, her research shows through when you see the depth of the mental anguish. A lovely feelgood book.
