As Johan contemplates whether to return to Bullard’s group or stay longer at Legendary Security to see what it’s like working under Levi and Ice, the opportunity presents itself for an assignment in which Johan and Galen will help Kai’s friend Joyce (a/k/a Joy) with a problem she’s having at her new job. Less than a year into the job that includes monitoring inventory for a medical research center that performs experimental surgeries on animals in its research, Joy has found a large discrepancy among the ordering, receiving, and inventorying of a fairly large amount of the drug ketamine that is popular for use in animals and abused by humans as well. Contrary to what she would consider normal, her supervisor did not seem at all interested in investigating the missing drug. The women who share Joy’s small office space are also uninterested in what Joy, or each other for that matter, are doing. SO, Joy shared her concerns with her good friend Kai, who shared them with the group at Legendary Security. When Johan and Galen arrive at Westgroup and are assigned the office near Joy’s, the trio set to working their way up the corporate org chart to find out the who, what, and why of the shoddy handling of shipping and receiving at Westgroup. I loved the way they worked as a team from the get-go, supporting and sharing ideas with each other, having each other’s back. Dale Mayer’s portrayal of honest, strong, and smart men and women is a joyous reading experience for me. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Johan answers a request for help accompanied by Galen, both are members of Legendary Security in Africa and looking for a change. They are trying the office in the United States.. They have been sent to assist Joyce, rather known as Joy. She has been unable to find work in her current field and has taken a temporary job to make ends meet. While doing this new job of only 6 weeks, she has found the possibility of missing drugs and no one seems to share her concern. She confides in a friend at Legendary Security which starts the ball rolling. They contact a member of the board of the company where Joy works and with his permission they send two members of their team to investigate. Johan and Galen are presented under the guise of men checking the inventory data base for some new (made up) compliance issue coming soon. The only problem is these guys look more like body guards, bouncers or thugs than pencil pushers. This story quickly escalates when a possible murder is discovered followed by threats, real death and the realization there is another problem present for this escalating danger in addition to the missing drugs I really enjoyed this story, the plot, the characters and growing relationship between Johan and Joy. "Hero's for hire" is a great series and this is a delightful addition to it! The epilogue includes a hint about Galen's next adventure to Germany which also sounds like a story I don't want to miss.

Johan Kotton and Galen Alrick had both been working is Africa with Bullard, Johan returned to spend some time working with Levi and Ice at Legendary securities, he was soon joined by Galen. Joy Baxter wanted a new start in Houston to be near her best friend Kai so she took a job as an inventory clerk for Westgate, a company involved in drug testing, a job that she was overqualified for. When a case of Ketamine, a strong knock out drug, went missing and her line manager didn't seem bothered, Joy voiced her concerns to her friend Kai. Kai's husband Tyson worked for legendary Securities which was mostly made up of ex navy SEALS, all with a wealth of experience and knowledge, and led by Levi and his wife Ice. When Joy's story came to the attention of Ice and Levi they were concerned enough to send in Johan and Galen undercover to investigate. This being a Dale Mayer story you know that things are not what they seem and things are far more complicated than at first thought. When it was discovered that Joy's predecessor came to a sticky end it became clear that Joy's life was in danger. The body count escalators, the suspects are numerous as are the red herrings. Can Johan protect Joy ? How high up the cooperate ladder does the skulduggery reach ? How many people must die, and why, before the murderers are uncovered ? The romance between Joy and Johan blossoms but will it last ? This is the 21st book in the "Heros for Hire" series and it has all the suspense, action and romance of the previous 20. A great read the epilogue of which gently leads into the next book......I can't wait. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
