About this ebook

Vibrational Spectroscopy for Plant Varieties and Cultivars Characterization, Volume 80, provides an overview on the application of vibrational spectroscopy to characterize plant cultivars and varieties. It covers a variety of aspects, including the potential of this technique for taxonomic purposes (species and cultivars/varieties identification), how to discriminate plants according to their ages and geographic regions, how to depict soil properties through plant characteristics, etc. Currently, most of these studies are performed through somewhat laborious techniques. This book presents reliable alternatives to such techniques, while also systematizing information concerning the application of vibration spectroscopy in this context. - Guides academics through the application of vibrational spectroscopy - Presents a valuable source of information for plant producers

About the author

Prof. dr. Barcelo Damia, Director of the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA) and Professor at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA), Barcelona, Spain. His expertise is in water quality assessment and management, fate, risk and removal of emerging contaminants in wastewater treatment plants and analysis, fate and risk of emerging contaminants and nanomaterials in the aquatic environment. He published over 900 papers, 200 book chapters and has h index 91. He was a coordinator of several national and EU projects and at the moment he coordinates two EU projects: GLOBAQUA, on multiple stressors in the aquatic environment and SEA-on-a-CHIP, on the development of sensor technolgies for emerging contamaints in marine aquaculture. He is CoEditor in Chief of the journal Science of Total Environment and the book series Comprehensive Analytical Chemistry, both form Elsevier..

Dr. Joao Lopes is Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutics at the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Lisbon and coordinates the chemometric & PAT research group of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Porto. He published more than 90 peer-reviewed research papers in the areas of chemometrics, vibrational spectroscopy and process analytics. He coordinated several research projects in the pharmaceutical, agro-food, microbiology and environmental fields.

Clara Sousa has a PhD degree in chemistry and has been an assistant researcher at REQUIMTE, Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry of Pharmacy Faculty, University of Porto since April of 2016. During her scientific career C Sousa has authored over 35 scientific publications, all of them ISI-indexed. She has participated in 5 funded projects from National and International institutions. Currently, Dr. Sousa is dedicated to explore the potential of infrared spectroscopic techniques coupled to chemometrics for several purposes as bacterial, yeasts and plants taxonomy and food and drugs quality control among others.
