Life gave her everything—then tore it all away. But she has too much to fight for to give up.
Clare grew up with wealth and privilege, but all she ever wanted was love. Breaking free from her family’s stifling expectations, she built a life of her own as an outdoor photographer. A chance assignment in Paradise Falls turned into her greatest adventure—love at first sight with Ethan Burke. Together, they built a beautiful life—a whirlwind romance, a dream marriage, children they adored, and a home filled with joy—until two years ago when their fourteen-year-old daughter, Grace, died in a boating accident.
Ethan nearly lost his life that day when he was forced to make an impossible choice—save Grace or save their son, Ben. He saved Ben, but the weight of that choice has been slowly breaking them apart.
Clare barely recognizes the man she once couldn’t imagine living without. The nights they spent tangled in each other’s arms have been replaced by endless hours of silence, both of them lying awake, burdened with worries they can’t share. Their oldest son, Jack, has grown distant, and their youngest, Ben, is drowning in grief, haunted by memories of his sister.
Work became Clare’s refuge, a distraction from the heartbreak threatening to consume her family—until a freak accident sent her car careening off a cliff. Now, stranded in the mountains with a blizzard closing in, she’s in a fight for her survival. Determined to make it back to the family that still needs her and the love she refuses to give up on.

For over thirty years, I’ve stood behind the lens of a camera, capturing the heart of agriculture—wading through cow pastures, rice paddies, and sprawling orchards. As a photojournalist specializing in agriculture, I’ve told stories rooted in the land, its people, and their passion.
Now, I channel that same storytelling spirit into deeply emotional, small-town contemporary romance. My novels weave themes of love, community, and sometimes, the agricultural threads that have shaped my own journey. Some of you may remember me as Kate Curran, but these days, all my books are published under my name, Kathy Coatney.
In addition to romance, I write the nonfiction children’s series From the Farm to the Table and Dad’s Girls, celebrating the connection between farm life and the food we enjoy.
When I’m not writing, you’ll likely find me mountain biking, cross-country skiing, strength training, or out for a jog—though tortoise pace might be a more accurate description!
