Rogue Academic: A Paranormal Academy Mythology Urban Fantasy Romance

I’m not quite sure how to explain what this story is, so I’m going to use some pop-culture references that resonated with me while reading it. I suspect fans of The Avengers will quickly recognise some familiar archetypes in this book. I think I could say the same for fans of the X-Men and Degrassi High. (I’d compare it to Beverly Hills, 90210, but I always felt that the students at Degrassi faced grittier real-world problems than their 90210 counterparts, and that’s exactly where Lara finds herself.) Imagine, if you will, that Tony Stark set up a school to mimic that of Professor Charles Xavier, and you’ll have a good idea of where I think the author was going. There’s a lot of their world’s history packed into this introductory volume, so that while this first book isn’t “action packed”, I can see the writing on the wall that makes me believe that’s the direction future ones will take. We’re left with a bit of a mystery at the end, and I, for one, can’t wait to see how it unravels. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Booksprout.

The storyline was fantastic. I enjoyed how unique and different it is. No, there wasn’t a lot of action throughout it but it gives great insight on how we are up to this point. Lara is smart, strong and has a curiosity that is intriguing. We see people and circumstances are not what we think they are. The story is extremely well written and developed. The descriptions are vivid and add that extra element to the story. This is definitely a must read and doesn’t disappoint. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

Lara goes with her friend Charley to the Godslayer Academy and she ends up as a TA assistant to one of the seven pivotal leaders.
