Amazing, absolutely incredible retelling of an old classic. Easily my favorite now, and I've read a few over the years. The characters are amazingly human, believable, relatable, and forgivable. Joan Wolf has presented this story in such a way as to not only explain everything, and every questionable action, but also to make some of the more racy aspects more palatable and tolerable. If you are familiar with Arthurian legend, you probably know what I mean. 100/100, this was a fantastic and engaging read, I suggest anyone open to a gentle Arthurian retelling at least give this book a chance. There are of course some things that certain readers might not like or agree with, but it's all honestly handled in the best of ways. Part of the joy of Arthurian lore is you more or less know what's going to happen, Wolf has given us the tools to appreciate the basics and bare bones of the story, while not taking anything away from it. I will be reading this book and series/trilogy again and again.
