About this ebook

Four years ago, firefighter Caleb Romero saved a child and met the woman of his dreams. But trauma killed the timing, so he’s contented himself with being the friend she needed as she navigated sudden parenthood.

Four years ago, Emerson Aldridge became a mom in the worst possible way. Without qualm, she abandoned her own dreams to shepherd her teenage daughter through their shared grief. Her number one priority has been to raise Fiona the way her best friend would have wanted.

Now Fi’s headed off to college and Emerson has no idea how to feel about her suddenly empty nest. She barely even remembers life before motherhood, but Caleb’s right next door to give her a reminder—along with a toe-curling kiss that catapults them past friends and into something more. The life she wanted before the accident is still within reach. He just has to convince her that their age difference means nothing.

Piece of cake. Right?

Caleb rescues a 14 year old girl from a car crash in which her mother was killed. He meets Emerson while Fiona, the young girl is recovering. Emerson is now the guardian of Fiona. The friendship between Caleb and Emerson soon develops into something more. When Fiona heads off to college, they decide to see where their relationship can go. I almost felt like I was watching a Hallmark movie where the two actors keep getting interrupted when trying to kiss when reading about Caleb and Emerson trying to take the next step in their relationship---well past kissing. It does have some ups and downs as there are always in romances. Well-written and fast-paced but a sweet, steamy story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really enjoyed this story. I could completely understand Emerson getting caught up in the situation with Fi and not seeing anything else around her. After all she had to deal with several traumas in ONE night. Her world changed on a number of different levels. I loved Caleb. Just that fact that he was there for Emerson, and Fi. Always helpful and supportive. The fact that he was a good man, a sexy firefighter, and had a strong sense of family, was icing on the cake. I liked the way Caleb and Emerson communicated. They had great chemistry, and really liked each other. When the problem and the angst rolled in, based on the foundation they had built, I just knew they would work it out. This was a story full of emotion, that ran the spectrum from painful and sad to lighthearted and HEA. This is the first book in this series, and it definitely has me wanting to read about Caleb's other siblings and the other books about the Misfit Inn. An easy 4.5 star read. I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book receiving via Booksprout.
