About this ebook

What could be more innocent than a country flea market?

When service dog trainer Marcia Banks takes up temporary residence with her best friend in Williston, Florida, her goals are simple: spoil her toddler godchildren and train her newest dog’s veteran owner, a vendor at a local flea market.

Ha, the universe has other plans. When the owner of the flea market is found dead and her client is a prime suspect, she discovers that nothing is as it seems—from the flea market owner himself, to the ornate dragonhead cane he gave to her client, to the beautiful but not very bright young woman whom her client has a crush on.

The only true innocent in the bunch seems to be her guileless client. But when he shares a confidence that puts her in a double bind with local law enforcement, she’s not sure she can even trust him.

Despite her promises to her new husband to not "poke around" in the investigation, the only way out of her no-win dilemma seems to be to find the real killer. The flea market, however, is hiding more secrets, and at least one of them could be deadly.

This is the first book that I have read by Kassandra Lamb and I am also not usually a reader of mysteries, but I must say that I really enjoyed reading this book. I do like books that have animals in them which this one has service dogs for vets in it. This book can stand alone, but there were references to previous events however they were not enough to detract from this story. Marcia is a trainer for service dogs and her newest trainee is for a disabled veteran who runs a booth at a flea market. While she is there to help train the vet and the dog to interact with each other, the owner of the flea market is murdered. At first, Marcia's client is thought to have committed the crime as the weapon came from his booth and he is taken in for questioning. Then as more clues and evidence surfaces, another booth owner is arrested for the crime. Marcia and Derek keep questioning and looking much to the dislike of her husband and of the sheriff of the investigating county. This book was not too graphic and was filled with a lot of wit and banter which made it a more enjoyable read. You will have to read the book in order to find out who committed the crimes and how much trouble Marcia and Derek get into by "poking" around. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

About the author

In her youth, Kassandra Lamb had two great passions—psychology and writing. Advised that writers need day jobs—and being partial to eating—she studied psychology. Her career as a psychotherapist and college professor taught her much about the dark side of human nature, but also much about resilience, perseverance, and the healing power of laughter. Now retired, she spends most of her time in an alternate universe populated by her fictional characters. The portal to this universe (aka her computer) is located in North Central Florida where her husband and dog catch occasional glimpses of her.
