About this ebook

Grief and power were always going to go hand in hand for the heir to the Empire, but that doesn't mean Iset is prepared.

When Iset discovers her father is sick, she has to come to terms with exactly what that means, including the possibility that she'll be ruling an empire much sooner than she expected to be.

After the worst news she can imagine, Iset isn't sure she has what it takes to organise mummification, and funerals, as well as juggle the politics of becoming the new Pharaoh.

But with her Sekhmet Blessed bodyguard by her side, perhaps she stands a chance.

This takes place right after Festival of the Blessed ends BUT it is a standalone and just as fantastic! It's a quick, bittersweet read that's worth every moment spent and had me shedding a few tears as well. It mainly revolves around Iset but her Blessed bodyguard Nahresi plays a major part as well. As does his Blessed animal, a lion named Cleo. Iset just so happens to be Ramesses older half sister. Yep, her father is the Pharaoh. And as such, he has named her his heir. Before her coronation as co-regent, the Pharaoh, her father tells her he's very sick and dies very soon after. Reading about her having to grieve in private and what she has to contend with because she has an empire that now looks to her to rule is the bitter portion. The sweet portion involves Nahresi and Cleo. Cleo has always loved on Iset the same way Matia loves on Nik. Turns out that Iset and Nahresi have had feelings for each other for some time now and Cleo's affection for Iset shows it was meant to be.

Iset thought she would have more time to learn at her father's knee. But that's not the way things work out. She manages her grief with the comfort of her guard, and friend, Nasrehi. Turns out that her father took a lot of things into consideration regarding his beloved daughter. A sweet story centered around a doting father, loving daughter and gentle protector with his Blessed lioness. Her brother posed a minor threat for a heartbeat but that fizzled. Oof! This story is likely to hit hard for anyone who’s lost a dearly loved one. I feel like grief is a chronic condition. You never really ‘get over’ it, you simply learn how to overcome the symptoms. It warmed my heart to see the love and support Iset received from Nahresi and his Blessed lioness. Because, sometimes it’s the people who stand beside us during the most difficult trials that make all the difference. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout.
