About this ebook

Winner of the CWA Gold Dagger Award, this breathtaking standalone novel is The Shawshank Redemption meets No Country for Old Men. Don't miss Michael Robotham's new thriller When She Was Good, out now.

Why would a man escape from prison the day before he's due to be released?

Audie Palmer has spent a decade in prison for an armed robbery in which four people died, including two of the gang. Seven million dollars has never been recovered and everybody believes that Audie knows where the money is.

For ten years he has been beaten, stabbed, throttled and threatened almost daily by prison guards, inmates and criminal gangs, who all want to answer this same question, but suddenly Audie vanishes, the day before he's due to be released.

Everybody wants to find Audie, but he's not running. Instead he's trying to save a life . . . and not just his own.

'Will have you turning the pages compulsively' The Times

'An absolute master' Stephen King

'He writes in a voice with a haunting sense of soul' Peter James

'Heart-stopping and heart-breaking' Val McDermid

It's been a bit of time since I've read a thriller - so many good Christmas books out there to indulge in - and this one has been languishing in my list for far, far too long. One of the most riveting novels I've read this year, and most definitely an author I'm going to be looking to for more thrills! Audie Palmer escapes from prison the day before his release date. That seems quite ridiculous to most people - me included - but is there someone out there who knows why? This is a slow release book, evenly paced throughout the story with enough revelations to keep the reader riveted. The tension is palpable and it makes for an intense, riveting read! Did I know where it was headed - NO. Did I suspect how it would play out - Absolutely NOT. Did I enjoy it? Oh, YES, each and every word. Loved, loved, loved everything about this one, and feel very appreciative for the author's skill in writing such a superbly structured story - one I won't forget for quite some time. I've already recommended it to my nearest and dearest - and he's so picky you'd hardly believe it! My thanks to Little, Brown Book Group for my copy via NetGalley. I chose to read this of my own free will - and I'm so sorry it took so long to reach the top of my list!

Very good read. The story slowly unveils the characters. You can't help but relate with Audie. Highly recommended.

The best Robotham book to date. Worthy of all the accolades and definitely worth your time. Mesmerising from beginning to end.
