The high chair lay on its side, a toy elephant and a crumpled green blanket scattered across the floor beside it.

“She had a baby? Is it—?”

“The baby’s gone.”

When Detective Josie Quinn is called to a large house on the outskirts of the small town of Denton, she’s horrified by the viciousness of the attack – smashed glass, splintered furniture and blood spattered across the floor. The owner, a single mother, is fighting for her life, and her newborn baby is missing.

A beautiful young woman caught fleeing the scene is Detective Josie Quinn’s only lead, but when questioned it seems this mysterious girl doesn’t know who she is, where she’s from or why she’s so terrified…

Is she a witness, a suspect, or the next victim?

As Josie digs deeper, a letter found hidden in the house convinces her the attack, the missing child, and the nameless woman are linked to a spate of killings across the county, and Josie is faced with a heart-breaking decision...

Should she risk the life of one child to save many others? Or can she find another way to stop this killer before any more innocent lives are taken?

Nail-biting, twisty and impossible to put down. If you love gripping thrillers from Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine, you’ll be absolutely hooked!

Detective Josie Quinn is back again with her team in a thrilling crime fiction. VANISHING GIRLS was first in this series and I highly recommend reading that one first, even though is easily a stand alone. The characters are outstanding and it gives the readers an understanding into their back stories. Josie is called to a crime scene that leaves her reeling. A woman has given birth in her bathroom and then had the baby grabbed out of her arms. The woman just happens to have been the girlfriend of her then husband, another cop, who was killed. The only lead she has is a nameless woman caught fleeing the house, wearing her finance's nightshirt. She says she has no memory of who she is, where she came from, and what she's doing here. On top of everything else, Luke, Josie's intended, is missing, as well. Is this woman a killer ... or is she a victim? How does she know Luke, and why is she wearing his shirt? Josie has already survived one cheating husband ... is it happening again? With bodies dropping like flies, Josie and her team begin a frantic race to find not only the baby, but Luke as well. The author's writing of this mystery is brilliant. There are so many twists and turns with suspects galore. Interspersed between chapters are newspaper articles relating the death of a young person of some accident or another. There are more than one, and it's hard to understand what they have to do with the story ... but it does make sense the more you read. I've read several books by this author and she has never disappointed me. I look forward to the next adventures of Josie Quinn and her team. Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the advanced digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Easy read. Finding this series of books a little similar. Not reading next one. Also last two books really annoying in that there are consecutive pages with only one letter on the page. This sometimes goes for 2 or 3 pages but sometimes for 10 to 20 pages. So very offputting

Another good story but I'm taking off 2 stars for the use of the name Trinity Payne. Trinity? Seriously? Stupid. Oh wait, then there's a character whose last name on his driving license is Twitch. Come on. Josie has gotten really annoying and the plot has become preposterous.
