About this eBook

His dangerous heart beats for her.

Willow sits before the Victoria Ballet Board, ready to tell her version of events leading up to the closing night incident. After chasing her dream all the way to Melbourne, that dream now lies in pieces alongside her love life. Had she known that one chance meeting with Vaughn Gallo would lead her down such a destructive path, she never would have…

No more lies.

It is time to speak the truth.

Vaughn was born into a life of rules and violence. A member of the infamous Merit Group, he bears the weight of his reputation like a cross, escaping into art whenever he can. There is no greater work of art than dancer Willow Hayes. Talented, witty, captivating. He vowed to keep his poisonous life away from her, but fate had other plans.

It is time to tell the story of the mafioso and his muse.

Well, one version of it…

This modern reimagining of The Phantom of the Opera explores trusting in love and oneself, even when the odds are against you. With angsty romance, sharp dialogue, and characters who live and breathe, this story will keep you on the edge of your seat until the shocking conclusion.

I was completely drawn in by the premise of a Phantom of the Opera retelling. A slow-burn romance, it features a male lead who is both protective and deeply caring—a refreshing take on a character type often portrayed as overbearing or brooding. What sets this story apart is its emotional depth. The male protagonist’s unwavering desire to keep the heroine safe is heartfelt and authentic, not at all creepy or controlling. A couple favorite quotes are “He wasn’t known for his patience, yet he seemed to have it on tap for her.” and " ‘You’re here,’ she breathed. He took a few slow steps in her direction. ‘Of course I am. Where else would I be?’ " Fans of the author's previous works should approach this story with an open mind—it’s a departure from her usual light-hearted banter and playful dynamic between characters. Instead, this book explores a more introspective and haunting atmosphere, perfectly in tune with its source inspiration.

This was such an exciting storyline, I could not put it down!! It's a bad boy/good girl plot... but with the MAFIA! The story is written well. It's an easy read, but not so fast-paced that details are missing. Tanya Bird has a way of writing that just drops you directly into the story. I honestly think a second book could be made from this..fingers crossed!

Beautiful Portrayal of Forbidden Love. A standalone featuring Ballerina Willow Hayes and Mafia ‘Crown Prince’ Vaughn Gallo. Their instant chemistry initiates romantic tension and his immediate protection of her is chivalrous. Some comedic relief with Willow’s best friend and fellow ballerina Lili Chén banter with Vaughn. Scary stuff with friend, instructor, choreographer, director and mentor Harrison Walsh. Realistic and heartwarming. Loved reading this story with a happy ending.
