Lots of short chapters in this book make it easy to read about something, put down the book and think about what you just read. And Hyatt gives you plenty to think about. I got the book thinking I could transfer what Hyatt was saying to the area of job hunting for my employability students. Indeed, there is a lot in this book to help someone who is out of work to market himself. Yet for many we deal with in our lab the CEO/Chairman who sells expensive hardback books and DVD packages and seminar packages to high power executives speaks to an audience that is sometimes intimidating to them. Yes, the fire walk is true to them too. Take that first step, then the next. You don't have to worry about the whole thing at this very moment. Just get started. But to people who have been so overwhelmed as to be immobilized, coaxing them to the first step is often difficult to accomplish with the big picture in front of them. An example of that I face every day has to do with how many contacts it takes on average to get a job in today's market, and how many contacts we want them to make every day. In fact, we have difficulty getting many people who have been out of work for months to make more than two contacts per week. So we have to find ways to train them to bring it up to the five level, and up from there. For them, that is the first step on their fire walk! Still, I find nuggets to share with the students. I copy some of Hyatt's blog posts for them. And I have my copy of the book in the lab so I can recommend it whenever possible. In addition, I use what I have learned in my own life. I have made applications in social media, in various business ventures in which I am engaged, and in thinking through my own personal branding. There will probably yet be changes and enhancements. So yes, I recommend this book. I even recommended it on my blog, GetThatJobByRobertTCooper on Blogger. It's worth your time.
