She writes stories about brave women and girls in history, including the Step Into Reading book Malala: A Hero for All; Here Come the Girl Scouts!, called "exuberant" in a starred review by School Library Journal; Mermaid Queen; Players in Pigtails; and You Forgot Your Skirt, Amelia Bloomer! Recently the New York Times called Corey a "deft storyteller."
James Bernardin is an award-winning graphic artist who combines traditional mediums with progressive thinking to create illustrations that are both arresting and accessible. To date, Bernardin has illustrated over twenty children's books, including Barack Obama: Out of Many, One by Shana Corey and the bestselling The Legend of the Candy Cane by Lori Walburg.
