About this ebook

'THE TROOP scared the hell out of me, and I couldn't put it down. Not for the faint-hearted' STEPHEN KING

He felt something touch his hand. Which is when he looked down.

For the scouts of Troop 52, three days of camping, hiking and survival lessons on Falstaff Island is as close as they'll get to a proper holiday.

Which was when he saw it.

But when an emaciated figure stumbles into their camp asking for food, the trip takes a horrifying turn. The man is not just hungry, he's sick. Sick in a way they have never seen before.

Which was when he screamed.

Cut off from the mainland, the troop face a terror far worse than anything they could have made up around a campfire. To survive they will have to fight their fears, the elements...and eventually each other.

Winner of the inaugural James Herbert Award, THE TROOP is a novel that will not fail to get under your skin...

Not disturbing or scary as i was expecting after reading reviews. Situations and things were described in a way i didn't get sometimes. Words used i had never heard the like of before. I guess it was a Canadian to black country ( west midlands UK ) thing. Overall not bad but no twist or great surprise at the end.

It's a good horror story. The positives are: good setting, excellent concept, a good selection of characters. The negatives being: the timing fails in a couple of areas as the story progresses, the kids talk about their ordeal being a few days when really it is only a day and a bit. (A minor niggle, but it bothers me). *Spoiler Alert* The other issue I have is with the character Eff suddenly becoming feeble and weak minded enough to let Shelly talk him into a terrible act of self mutilation. This just simply doesn't seem to fit with the back story the reader gets for Eff's personality. (I'm surprised this got past an editor). *End of Spoiler* On the whole a reasonable effort.
