About this ebook

Enjoy this steamy Protector Romance with a grumpy Irish hero and a sarcastic hacker heroine on the run by award-winning military romance author Patricia D. Eddy.

Ronan

After a stint in the Irish Defense Forces, I drifted. No purpose, no place I felt truly at home. Until I joined Second Sight, Boston's leading security and protection firm. It's more than a job. It's a family. One I don't deserve. One of these days, they'll see through my sarcasm and bravado and realize I'm just a screw up.

My first solo assignment? Hunt down a trained assassin and stop her. Whatever it takes. But the more I learn about Zephyr, the more I wonder if there's more to this case than meets the eye.

Zephyr

I was set up by the only family I've ever known. On the run, always looking over my shoulder, unable to trust anyone. Until I land in Boston, searching for the one man who can clear my name. The only other person to ever escape the Strauss Cartel.

I should have known I was walking into a trap. My only hope of survival? Convince the Irish hunk holding me at gunpoint I’m not the person he thinks I am.

And wonder what it would be like to kiss him.

~~

Protecting His Target is a found family, steamy protector romance featuring a grumpy Irish hero who thinks he's a major screw up and a loner hacker on the run who's been falsely accused or murder. There's humor, sarcasm, and cameos by many of the past Away From Keyboard couples. And of course, a pulse-pounding ending.

Each book in the Away From Keyboard series is a standalone, but past characters do reappear in future books so you'll never have to say goodbye to any of them.

Zephyr and Ronan had me laughing, panting, and in suspense while reading this. I loved how the author balances out the danger with the humor and we get some of our old favorites popping up as well. The story is gripping and had me on the edge of my seat reading.

It's always a good month when there's a new Patricia D. Eddy book being released. Protecting His Target was a thrilling read, very much in line with the *very* tall bar set by the other novels in her Away From Keyboard series. While we've seen Ronan on previous missions, I enjoyed getting past the barriers he'd built around his heart, and watching as he infuriated himself trying to break through Zephyr's own misgivings. "But this man—this amazing, romantic, handsome man—is turning me into someone I don’t recognize. Someone with wants. Needs. Desires. All of which could get me killed." Their banter throughout the book was second only, in my mind, to the verbal slaps we often hear between my (yep, claimed) dear Ryker and Wren. In fact, it'd be no stretch to say that Zephyr is definitely a new favorite character of mine. The true mark of a good novel is the emotional ride it pulls you through, and there was no shortage of that here. I laughed ("Sit still and look pretty" nearly had me choking on my meal at the time"), cringed in sympathy, and cried more than once. Though the heroes featured in these novels often toe the line when it comes to their missions, it was a whole new level when Ronan felt he had to stand between the woman he was falling for and his brothers-in-arms. Despite being a highly anticipated release, this book met every expectation. While newcomers to the series could easily step in and enjoy the story on its own, I'd recommend enjoying the series from the beginning so you can truly appreciate all these characters have to offer in their found family. Though I have a copy on preorder, I received an advanced copy from the author, and am leaving my review voluntarily.

Each Away From Keyboard book draws you further into the characters and the series, and this may be one of the best, for a variety of reasons. A big one of those reasons is that we see so much of Dax, Ryker, and Wren as well. The main characters in this book, though, are the biggest reason. Both feel alone, neither feels they have a family any more – and Second Sight is as determined to make Ronan realize they are his family. At the start of this book, Zephyr has been betrayed by just about everyone – even though she doesn’t realize quite how many yet. That she is able to trust Ronan and, eventually, feel part of Second Sight is a testament to Patricia Eddy’s writing and our investment in the characters. There is a great deal of heat – with pure terror at times as well as suspense. I wanted to carry on reading when this ended, just so that I had more Second Sight! This book is much richer if you’re familiar with the characters from past books, but, if this is your first visit to Second Sight, you are in for a wonderful surprise and a plethora of books to read to meet them properly.

About the author

Patricia D. Eddy writes romance for the beautifully broken. Fueled by coffee, wine, and Doctor Who episodes on repeat, she brings damaged heroes and heroines together to find their happy ever afters in many different worlds. From military to paranormal to BDSM, her characters are unstoppable forces colliding with such heat, sparks always fly.

Patricia makes her home in Seattle with her husband and very spoiled cats, and when she’s not writing, she loves working on home improvement projects, especially if they involve power tools.

Her award-winning Away From Keyboard series will always be her first love, because that’s where she realized the characters in her head were telling their own stories—and she was just writing them down.
