About this eBook

After his last assignment, Ryker is ready for a rest. And he gets it—but only a few hours …

That’s even too long for a geologist kidnapped by guerrillas in the Colombian jungle. Ryker has plenty of experience in jungles around the world but, keeping Manila safe—along with the two men she’s traveling with and their injured guide—exposes them for who they are. It quickly becomes apparent, under these most gruelling conditions, which of her party steps up and which plan to step out.

Manila’s life has become one of never-ending misery at the hands of her captors as they await word from their bosses, who decide her ultimate fate. That she’s hunting platinum doesn’t matter to them. Nor that she’s fighting against the invasive illegal gold mining taking over parts of the area. When Ryker rescues her from her prison tent, she places her trust in his ability to get her and her team safely away. Not yet realizing she’d be gifting him both her body and her heart too.

Ryker needs to keep them all alive and together long enough to get them out of this hellhole—hopefully alive …

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it. At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to read and review this. The thought of reading a book that takes place in Columbia, a country that I am very unfamiliar with, was a little daunting. The author is a favorite of mine though so I thought, "what the heck, go for it." Boy I am sure glad that I did. I should have trusted more. I wasn't inundated with descriptive detail so my mind was allowed to fill in the blanks. There was one passage that really stood out to me that I was grateful for. There was a snake that went over Manila's boot. There was no description nor the name of the snake for me to stop reading the book and search the internet for. I was given the opportunity to just see "snake" and continue to read. The plot flowed beautifully. I adored how trusting Manila was of Ryker. Some female protagonist can be extremely combatant in situations where the alpha hero takes over to protect and rescue them. It can make me a little upset and distance me from the character. This is a sexy book so I can only recommend this to anyone over the age of 18. Also while this is a part of a series, this can be read as a stand-alone.

This is book 6 in The Mavericks series and it features Ryker and Manila. The chemistry is there. The flirting was fantastic! These two are a good match. Wish we could see a little of their relationship AFTER they got back from Columbia but sadly we see nothing. When the mystery is solved, the story ends. The characters are always fantastic! The action is top notch! I could actually visualize them trudging through the jungle. There were a lot of holes in the story line and it drug out far too long for such a simple plot. It also ended without much excitement.

I really liked this book. I love reading books where you see SEAL skills in practice. This book had all the drama of a mission and of course as is the case with all Dale Mayer books, ends with a happily ever after. The mission was to rescue a geologist and her team from the jungle in Columbia. Ryker and his friend pick up the trail at the last site and follow the trail to the camp where Manila and her two team members were being kept. The rescue was the easy part. Then they needed to trek through the jungle. Once they made it to a coastal village where they could get a ride back to the states. There was one thing that they needed to do before leaving. They needed to find out who was behind the kidnapping. The stakes were raised when Manila was shot. This led to a series of twists and turns and the surprise ending. If your looking for a good read, I recommend checking out this book.
