About this ebook

The Magic Thief: Home, the fourth book in the acclaimed Magic Thief series, finds new wizard Conn back where he started—accused of being a thief.

Despite successfully securing a balance between the competing magics of Wellmet, Conn is not happy. Duchess Rowan has promoted him to ducal magister, but the other wizards see him only as a thief.

But something sinister is brewing, as magicians' locus stones are being stolen and magical spells are going awry. As Conn faces old enemies and powerful magical forces, is he strong enough to save the city he calls home?

Diana Wynne Jones, author of Howl's Moving Castle, praised this middle grade fantasy series filled with magic and wonder, saying of the first book: "I couldn't put it down. Wonderful, exciting stuff."

I loved this series when I first found it at the library. I was overjoyed to see another installment had been published. After the catastrophic events of book 3, Wellmet has two magics running it, and they don't get along so well. Plus, Conn has to clear his name when someone starts stealing locus stones. The magisters think it's him, but it's not, of course. Conn goes undercover on the streets of the Twilight to get the scoop. All the conflicts introduced in book 3 are carried forward. The dragon, Pip. Nevery's constant worry at losing Conn again. Rowan and Ember having to run things. And whatever happened to Crowe? But most of all, Nevery has never once told Conn that he loves him. This always annoyed me, and it's forced to a resolution in this book. A lot of loose threads are tied up so nicely. I heaved a sigh of contentment as I finished the book. Now I have to go back and decode all the code conversations that people have in the various notes. They're always amusing and touching.
