A Discovery of Secrets and Fate

Rating: 4.5 Stars This time Finley starts the reader off right where the first book left off – series must be read in order. In her latest story, we seem to be along for the ride. She has a spunkiness that builds as our adventure goes on. Like you or I might be, there’s also an apprehension that she voices to Carrick. Finley seems to be a hero in training. One thing that hasn’t changed is that Finley seems to be the main player of the piece. She seems to have a bigger voice than Carrick and that just might be done that way on purpose. I feel like I need to listen to a strong piece of music like Ravel’s Bolero because it felt the perfect fit to the way this story flows. Right now, I can’t figure out if Carrick is the Maestro or one of the musicians. This is a great fantasy, action and adventure, that blends well with the world we currently live in. Our heroine is surrounded by men who seem to know more than her, a lot of that may true but she’s showing much strength up against something she never knew about. Our author has created a series that showcases her talent. Her creativity is off the charts. And just like her first book, she’s left me in a limbo where I’m left on the edge of my seat because now, I have to wait for the next book to find out what happens. A Discovery of Secrets and Fate is the second book in Sawyer Bennett's Chronicles of the Stone Veil and we continue the saga of Finley and Carrick. These books will need to be read in order and picks up where the first book left off. This book not only answers many of the questions that we were left with after the first book, but it also introduces a whole new set that we are now left to ponder! Finley's powers are beginning to morph and while this is confusing for her, it also puts her in more danger. While she is still learning about this new world she's been thrust into, she is also realizing that she has to embrace it in order to move forward. Carrick is still a very magnetic figure that we still don't know a tremendous amount about, and Finley continues to find herself fascinated even though she also isn't sure she completely trusts him. I am really looking forward to continuing to learn about Carrick and what makes him tick. We got a few answers, but I know there is much more there to uncover. The relationship between Carrick and Finley continues to develop and they are growing closer, which I like. I also like the pace at which it is happening. There is still so much ground to cover as this saga continues and I for one can't wait! I definitely enjoyed this book more than book one in this series. Eagerly looking forward to the next one!

The appearance of a powerful Dark Fae forces Finley under the protection of Carrick Byrne, a protection of which she refuses and denies but the Dark Fae aren’t going to stop with our story line heroine, but begin targeting the people she loves the most. In an effort to get answers, Carrick takes Finley to the land of Faere where our heroine will discover the hatred and discrimination directed at humans is not much different than the hatred many people experience on Earth. With her past revealed, and the future not yet set in stone, Finley and Carrick return to Earth where they will have to begin preparations to save the world. Sawyer Bennett pulls the reader into an intriguing and fascinating world of the Light and Dark Fae. Finley Porter is a stubborn, oft-times immature heroine, and a little TSTL (too stupid to live) but when the reality of her situation threatens not only her life but the lives of the people she loves, Finley must pull up her big-girl panties, and prepare for the fight of her life. Like most urban fantasy series, there is a definite sexual tension between Finley and Carrick but Carrick reveals the truth about his future, and his future does not include our story line heroine. A DISCOVERY OF SECRETS AND FATES ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.
