A gorgeous story about a guy, who’s committed heinous crimes for the greater good, and the sweet woman who is like warm, bright summer to the bleak, cold winter that is his life. “No matter how much I’m attracted to her – no matter how intrigued I am by the very light that radiates from her personality – I cannot go there.” Kyle has been damaged by his experiences of a life living with the inhumane dregs of society for the past few years. He is hiding in plain sight, trying to acclimatise to normal living, and trying to shed his hard-earned brutality and savagery. However, his stunning but forward neighbour makes it difficult for him to keep to himself, as she amuses him against his volition with her quirkiness, and he finds her brightness irresistibly hard to fight. She’s a balm to his tortured soul but he doesn’t want to taint her with his darkness. “I vow to myself I’m going to get through those walls he just put up around himself, no matter what it takes.” Jane is funny, quirky, and almost indomitable. She is full of life and light, and completely happy and content with her life in a small town. She thinks her hot but taciturn neighbour is a puzzle that she has the compulsion to solve, and is not put off by the fact that he is “crude, withdrawn, gruff, and anti-social”. Her attraction and her belief that beneath his tough, dangerous exterior is a gentler soul, keeps her pushing her way into his life. This story was a mixture of adorable (just like the heroine), humorous, with a smattering of darkness (as we learn little pieces of Kyle’s recent past), and plenty of hot! I loved how Kyle couldn’t keep away from Jane – his passion and lust for her were swoony. I loved Jane’s goodness, her trusting nature, and her willingness to step out of her comfort zone to be with Kyle. Her best friend, Miranda, was a fab, sassy character and I’d love to read a story about her. Overall, a really great read, in a beautiful setting, about two innately good people finding one another. One bringing love, comfort and brightness to the life of the other, who has seen the worst of what the world has to offer.

This is by no means the first time fans of Sawyer Bennett have met Kyle. But it is the first time we really get to know him. And even though he tries to keep to himself, there is no way his curious neighbor is going to allow that!!! Jane Cresson, I absolutely loved her!!! She is the sweet girl next door/art teacher, and exactly what Kyle needs, whether he knows it or not!!! And she is determined to break through his gruff shell. Kyle knows he won't be sticking around and he does his best to not let Jane get attached to him. He even warns her that he will be leaving soon. What he doesn't count on is how much Jane comes to mean to him. Will he be able to leave when the time comes? Or does Jane mean more than everything else in his life? Another great book by one of my favorite authors!!!

This is another in a long line of amazing books from this author. This one gives us a look at a secondary character we've seen in other books, Kyle Sommerville. He's in hiding after completing a grueling three year ATF undercover assignment. His new sexy neighbor, Jane, has no idea what she's walking into when pushes her way into his life and god knows he can't tell her....or resist her. As expected the writing and character development in this book are outstanding. Jane may very well be my favorite female character ever. The sweet but very sexy story will have you on an emotional roller coaster from the very beginning. Don't miss this one. I highly recommend it.
