प्रेमचंद का सर्वश्रेष्ठ उपन्याससेवासदन‘सेवासदन’ हिन्दी और शायद उर्दू में भी सबसे पहला सामाजिक उपन्यास है। इस कृति में समाज की अनेक समस्याओं को एक साथ पूर्ण रूप से उभारा गया है। वस्तुतः प्रेमचन्द का सेवासदन एक ऐसा उपन्यास है, जिसने उन्हें हिन्दी उपन्यासकार के रूप में प्रतिष्ठित किया और समूचे उपन्यास साहित्य को नई दिशा दी।उपन्यास की नायिका, सुमन का विवाह एक गरीब व्यक्ति से होता है, जो अच्छे वस्त्र और सुविधा सम्पन्न जीवन की उसकी स्वाभाविक इच्छा को पूरा नहीं कर पाता। उसका पिता ईमानदार पुलिस अफसर है। उसके सहयोगी और अधीनस्थ कर्मचारी उससे रुष्ट हैं, क्योंकि घूसखोरी आदि कुप्रथाओं का वह विरोध करता है और इस प्रकार उनके पथ का कंटक है। उसे अपनी पुत्री का विवाह करना है, इसलिए वह पथभ्रष्ट होता है। उसकी गिरफ्तारी होती है और उसे कारावास मिलता है। रात को एक सखी के घर से लौटने में सुमन को देर हो जाती है। असंतोष और खीज से त्रस्त उसका पति रात में उसे घर से बाहर निकाल देता है। वह अपनी सखी के घर जाने का प्रयत्न करती है परन्तु असफल रहती है। अन्त में, उसके पड़ोस में रहने वाली एक वेश्या उसे शरण देती है। सुमन साध्वी नारी के पद से गिरती है। इस प्रकार सेवासदन उस महिला की कहानी है, जिसे हालात ने वेश्या बना दिया। समाज में व्याप्त वेश्या समस्या का इसमें विस्तार से चित्रण हुआ है। यह केवल वेश्या समस्या का ताना-बाना नहीं है, बल्कि भारतीय नारी की विवश स्थिति और उसके गुलाम जीवन की नियति को बड़े ही मार्मिक ढंग से रेखांकित करने वाली कृति है।

I really like the way of expressing the emotions, ethics of life, duties of mankind. I usually reading the novel of Premchand but every time I got emotionally attached with all of his writings. About this Book, I really like the story and I'd like to prefer this everyone.
