About this ebook

Destined for the hangman's noose, love is a dream he cannot afford...

When Blayne MacNeil agrees to be Miss Charlotte Russell's bodyguard, he doesn't expect her to expand the job description to fake fiancé. After twenty years in hiding, announcing his engagement to a viscount's daughter could prove fatal. For if anyone were to recognize him, he'd be charged with murder.

Determined to keep her independence in order to safeguard her writing career, Charlotte must avoid marriage. After all, no respectable gentleman would ever permit his wife to pen outrageous adventure novels. But when her most recent manuscript disappears, the roguish Scotsman posing as her fiancé becomes her closest ally - and the greatest threat to her freedom.

Amazingly complex, deeply moving love story! What starts as a simple bodyguard-for-hire relationship quickly turns into so much more for Charlotte and Blayne. This is a surprisingly complicated story, with a fake engagement followed by a forced engagement, secret identities that completely blow up in their faces, manipulative parents, murder charges, and even a book pirating scheme. Nothing gets lost in the weeds, though. This well-crafted tale seamlessly connects all the dots while never losing focus on the tender, heartwarming story of two people falling in love. I could feel the intense chemistry between these two right from the start, and I really appreciated how the author allowed that chemistry to build slowly between Charlotte and Blayne, saving the payoff for the very satisfying HEA. Charlotte's relationship with Mrs. Callanach was especially poignant and very sweetly resolved. This romance was a joy to read from start to finish, and I couldn't have loved it more. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Interesting twists in this story. Charlotte Russell wishes to keep her occupation on the down-low and to stay unmarried too. Will fate allow that. Well, that may be a different story altogether. Blayne MacNeil has agreed to take on the job of bodyguard to Charlotte yet fate has something else planned and that just might cause Blayne some serious problems. Now add in a mystery to the mix and you have a very good story to enjoy. I love how this talented writer weaved her words to create this charming piece I hope you take a moment and check it out. It is a very splendid piece. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

I always enjoy Sophie Barnes’ books. She has such a delightful way of keeping you turning the pages as evidenced by “ Her Scottish Scoundrel”. Miss Charlotte Russell's has her life planned out and it doesn’t include the marriage her father has in mind. Charlotte is loyal, intelligent, independent, kind and strong-willed. She’s a writer of outrageous adventure novels, a secret she keeps with the hopes of one day becoming independent. What respectable gentleman would ever permit his wife to pen such novels! To protect her independence, Charlotte hires Blayne to be your bodyguard. Blayne MacNeil agrees to be Miss Charlotte Russell's bodyguard but he never imagined he’d be posing as her fake fiancé. It was evident from the start they had a connection. I really liked Blayne, not so much his profession but the man himself, after all they cannot all be nobility . He’s a wonderful hero though, He is a man with his own secret story. He’s honorable, intelligent, good hearted and has a quiet strength about him. I loved Charlotte and Blayne’s story. These were two fabulous, three dimensional characters that you can’t help but fall in love with. The dialogue was witty and intelligent and the author has a knack for pulling you into the story. I love the storyline and the fact that Charlotte was a writer. The plot was exciting and while a bit slow at first picked up the pace around the middle of the book. There were lots of interesting things happening throughout the story. Thanks so much Ms. Barnes for such a charming story.
