When her father falls in dangerous territory with his heart problems, Kelly discovers secrets from the past that were never meant to be revealed. Her father tells her he's been looking for the daughter he's never seen or acknowledged. Kelly agrees to help look for her, but is warned not to tell her mother. Kelly feels that her father is dying so finding a sister she's never known is extremely important. Throwing herself wholeheartedly into investigating, she immediately runs into brick walls. A secretive man she's attracted to warns her off .... people she overhears gossiping about something dreadful that happened many years ago .... and then there's the threatening notes she begins receiving telling her to stop asking questions. This was just an okay read for me. Kelly, although an adult woman, comes across as a petulant teenager. Her mother is in turn, argumentative and angry, treating Kelly like she's a stranger that can't be trusted with the truth. Her boyfriend is having troubles of his own and at one time tells her to stay out of his business .. and professing to love her in the next minute. The first half of the book is all about her father, her father's illness, her father's treatment, her father's not wanting anyone to know his secrets.... it got a bit tiring after a while. One we were through all that, the story got better, although I guessed a part of the mystery early on. I have read several books by this author and never been disappointed. This one, I think, is an anomaly and I look forward to her books in the future. Many thanks to the author / TBC Reviewer Request Group (FB) for the digital copy of STRUCK WITH VENOM.
