About this ebook

For the first time since Swami Vivekananda's famous address to the World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago on 11 September 1893, this provocative study seeks to rescue the historical Vivekananda from the celebrated Swamiji of the legend and hagiography. Using a variety of primary and contemporary secondary sources, including eyewitness accounts in English as well as Bengali, Professor Narasingha P. Sil examines Vivekananda's early life and education, his meeting and relationship with his future mentor Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, and the circumstances leading to his embracing monastic life. Analyzing Vivekananda's numerous sermons, speeches, conversations, and letters, Sil exposes the Swami's deliberate distortion of facts and purposive misinformation on, and misleading and tendentious interpretation of, aspects of Hindu society and culture.

A real silly book. The author seems to be obsessed with sex. It appears, faced with his own incapability to acquire intellectual maturity even at such an advanced age, he came up with this idea of writing a bizarre book full of speculations and nonsensical inferences. A sick masala book by a pseudo-intellectual. What a wastage of time, really! He has written a similar book on Ramkrishna. Just what could be his aim, is anybody's guess.

all i can say that it is absolutely a crap. Narasingha Prosad i beg that u must enlighten your self first before putting such bogus book in publication. Didn't ur mind even for once thought before u've quoted such stupid and out of fact remarks about Swamiji. Alas u cannot tarnish even a little bit Image of Swamiji as he never cared for the immature persons like you. During his stay in America a person name Mukhopaddhay tried to tarnish his image like this by giving all false apprehensions about him in India. He even tried to make him(Swamiji) a characterless person but what happened to him did the world approved his stupid talks no rather he got condemned by American news paper" I guess the persons like u r very crazy see first your fault rather pointing fingers at others. My god bless u..

It is painful and humiliating to have to respond to puerile trash by mindless adults, but, for the sake of professional courtesy I need to go on record pleading my bashers to cool down, to leap out of the cage of stereotypical starry-eyed devotees, and see the large-eyed, turbaned superstar of Vedantist Hindu religion as an authentic human being rather than the cosmetized "Maharishi" of the theater of virtue. In order to pierce the veil of his made-up ascetic exterior, one must have the language skill and hermeneutical capability, in other words, reading and comprehension skill in Bengali and interpretive experience as a scholar. The three Swami swooners need to grow up as thinking and reflexive adults. Ram
