About this ebook

He knows he doesn’t deserve her, yet he can’t get her out of his mind…

Stripped of his title because of a crime his father committed, Marcus Berkly has struggled to find a new place for himself in the world. Now, as London’s most skilled eye-surgeon, he dedicates his time to his patients while steering clear of Society. Until a chance encounter with a determined young woman upends his life.

When Lady Louise discovers that Mr. Berkly’s surgical method could save her from permanent blindness, she decides to enlist his help. Against her father’s direct orders, she takes charge of her fate, and falls desperately in love in the process. But can a proper lady and an ill-reputed scoundrel have a future together? Or are the odds against them simply too great?

onderful characters and even though book 8 in the series, can be read as a standalone. Marcus lost everything, his title, lands and more due to the fact his father was hanged for murder. The Ton has given him a direct cut for his father’s crime. This doesn’t bring Marcus down, but makes him more determined to reinvent himself. He goes to University in Edinburg to become a ophthalmologist. Returning to London he finds employment at St. Agatha’s, but always on the outskirts of Ton affairs. Because his sister is married to a Duke he is obligated to attend her ball. Seeking a breath of fresh air and hiding from the invited guests he meets Louise who appears to be talking with a frog. Louise is hiding, she is pitied by the Ton, consider handicapped, imperfect only because of her eyes. She has cataracts and has have several couching. The pain of surgery and the recurring cataracts also has cause her to have a fear of losing her sight. When at a ball her sight fails her, Marcus comes to her rescue. The story is interesting in that one learns how eye surgery was and thank goodness it has advanced from that time period. The bravery of Louise who is determined to live life on her terms and to the fullest. Thank you NetGallery for this ARC. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story.

This was a well written book with good writing style. Enjoyed learning more about medical practices during the Regency period. Likable characters. Wish there had been a little more passion but overall a good read with interesting characters.

I am glad how it ended. Why would a father not want his child to receive treatment that would help overcome her disability? He is all about control Louise suffers from a condition that could lead to blindness. Marcus is a surgeon who may be able to help. I enjoyed reading this couples challenges and how they overcame what was thrown at them. I loved their interactions they were really wonderful characters. I have a number of this author's books and I love her style. This was a good book and I am happy to recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review it.
