His literary career spanned various genres, including poetry, essays, and history, but he is predominantly celebrated for his contributions to detective fiction. One of his notable works includes 'The Paradise Mystery', a captivating whodunit that encapsulates Fletcher's deft plotting and attention to intricate details, elements that have garnered the admiration of crime fiction enthusiasts. Fletcher's narrative style often involves a keen observation of rural English life, intertwined with mystery and suspense, which has become a hallmark of his work. Posthumously, his novels have continued to attract readers, and scholars have noted his influence on the development of the English detective novel. Although Fletcher's work has been overshadowed by that of his contemporaries like Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle, modern reassessments of genre history frequently acknowledge his contributions.
