Only in a book can one person be so perfect. Everything about Ryan is the the best a person could be, exclusively: personnel traits, career, family, ambitions, reactions, interactions, opportunities.... Even when a flaw was finally brought about, it only lasted for a chapter, then back to perfection. At one point I was expecting Ryan to perform his own surgery, even while under anesthesia. I read a lot and have stopped reading a very few times in my life, this was one of them. I love Red Storm Rising though (no Ryan in it).

Great story, classic Tom Clancy. I haven't read a bad Clancy book yet, and the Jack Ryan stories are excellent. There are a few parts of the book where things feel a little too convenient or fake, but they're minor points & details that only somebody familiar with the environment or protocol might pick up on. Still great thriller & definitely a recommended read.

First Tom Clancy read; decent book with some slow parts and page-turning parts. More of the slow, though, but the good parts were action oriented. Will give additional books in this series a go in the future.
