He could be the man to rescue her

Big city K-9 cop Ronan McGuire loves women, loves his dog, loves his job—but when old flame Maddy Morgan moves into his jurisdiction, he can't think about anyone else. Ronan knows she's way out of his league, but he's determined to help Maddy live life to the fullest.

In more ways than one

With tragedy in her past, Maddy has immersed herself in work and swiftly made a name for herself in the hot New York City real estate market. She's looking for safety, not love, but Ronan McGuire is as persistent as he is sexy, and his crooked smile is hard to resist. But all other concerns are wiped away when Maddy goes missing and Ronan and his bloodhound K-9 partner are tasked with finding her and bringing her home.

After her long-time boyfriend Rick, a firefighter, died in the line of duty eighteen months ago, Maddy Morgan left Old Brookfield for New York City. A real estate agent, Maddy has made a success of herself in the Big Apple, but in fact she is hiding. She doesn’t know how to start living again, and she’s thankful for Ronan McGuire’s friendship. Although Maddy is very conscious of Ronan’s considerable charms, she will not succumb; it’s too soon after Rick’s death, and Ronan also has a high-risk profession: he is a K-9 cop. A consummate ladies’ man, Maddy is the one who resisted him all those years ago, until she found Rick, and Ronan stepped aside reluctantly, but graciously. Ronan and Maddy are running partners, they really are good friends, and even though Ronan would like more, he won’t push Maddy into anything. Besides if there is one thing Maddy isn’t is a pushover! While writing my review, I noticed that my short summary doesn’t do justice to TROUBLE WALKS IN at all! Ms. Humphreys gives such a fresh twist to the familiar trope, it doesn’t even feel like something we've encountered before, and I think it's because there is not a cliché in sight. The dog, Bowser, is as much a character as the people, never intrusive; the author’s research really paid off, because it all felt so real; Bowser is not a “cute” dog, he’s a working dog all the way, and his work was great to read. Ms. Humphrey’s prose is so effortless and smooth, it’s a pleasure to read, the dialogues are simply excellent, whether between the McGuire siblings, or Maddy and her friends and co-workers, and the banter between Ronan and Maddy is sweet and witty, and their chemistry feels real. I also totally got the feel for both Maddy’s and Ronan’s very different occupations and lives. Ronan is determined that he needs Maddy in his life, and I could hug Sara Humphreys for making him such a delightful hero, so unlike the typical alpha male we too often encounter in romances. Maddy is independent, and doesn’t fear standing up for herself, but she’s not brash or stupidly stubborn. In fact, Ronan and Maddy are just about perfect protagonists for a romance, as far as I’m concerned. There are also two very creepy guys, murders occur, and steamy but classy sex scenes. TROUBLE WALKS IN is an intelligent romance between grown-ups; it’s beautifully written, fast-paced, and I loved every minute of it! A Book Obsessed Chicks Review Team Selection

Loved, loved, loved! I really enjoyed the slow build of the relationship between Ronan and Maddy. I also thought Ronan's character was great. Not the typical alpha badass detective but a truly kind and caring K-9 beat cop. Both Ronan and Maddy are living and working in NYC. He's always been attracted to her but she was taken before so maybe now is his time. He takes it slow though, first building a friendship then asking for more. *sigh* It's a fantastic story with a little suspense thrown in and with the cutest partner ever (you gotta love Bowser) Ronan will win your heart. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
