I have followed the series from start to now to finish. The book has full of intrigue and some lopsided action. Someone picking up the book randomly will be lost. I feel author did best they could as this series should have ended books ago. The ship action was padded over since other side wasn't able to do a thing to make naval action interesting.

This volume caps the longest career arc for an uncompromising hero. Weber has filled the Honorverse with a variety of interesting characters and villains that it has taken on a life of its own. Weber often gets lost in exposition trying to keep the sideplots straight (rather than write more of them in the supporting side series that must still culminate here) that the time spent with our main heroine often seems miniscule compared to the overall fabric of the story. He gets there in the end, but the abundance was a little tedious. A good editor could have distilled a better story. What does irk me is that the Solarian League is a snake with three heads all at odds with each other. The 'Good guys' seem to be more lucky than smart. If counter-espionage was also as good as their counter-intelligence the League would be in better place to counter the Mesan Alignment.

Typical David Weber book. It's a great series. Lots of action, twists, turns, etc. But the ending leaves a lot to be desired. He typically leaves a lot of loose ends. The biggest villans in the series, don't even come into the end of it. They coming mad murder on a unprecedented scale and nothing.
