*In his attempt to do the unexpected, the author might have forgotten to do what was needed.* This book brings to conclusion, the roller coaster ride that we have been on in the last 4 books. It was an enjoyable ride, however, this last installment in the series feels rushed as it refuses to explore the full extent of everything that the world had to offer. Of course, it is not easy to write stories and it is also possible, the author wished to move on. Whatever the reason may be, the last installment comes across as enjoyable but disappointing nonetheless. We get to know a little bit of history of the world and why and how the world came to be the way it is. We get to see our beloved characters (both young and adult) grow. We get to see a large scale battle with the future of entire world at stake. What we do not get to see are the Angari and the Everdark Gates? What we do not get to see is punishment for some of the worst kind of people, because of the "good" they intended to do or did? What we do not get to see is an Epic Battle of the White (Wight) King? What we never get to see is Kip's mother's side of the story and an associated character that was introduced but never used (to avoid spoiler)? There are more of what we do not get to see, but I hold myself for now. This world is wondrous as it is corrupt and yet, so little of what it could be has been explored in this series that it baffles me to no end. Honestly, we could have done with less of Dazen's sexual exploits and more of the story in the previous books, but well, it is what it is. Overall, the final book is not terrible, in fact, it was quite enjoyable. However, that enjoyment is marred by all the questions that the book deems worthless to answer. That is disappointing.

Best book in the series, I think. Burning White really pays off on the long build up in book 4. This story is filled with so many interesting characters, yet somehow, they all wrap up nicely by the end of the series. Tons of action, tons of really interesting history revealed, and very fun to read.
