One of the greatest inventors of the 18th century, James Watt was a true genius since childhood. At a small age of six, the potential of his brilliant mind was observed. In the early stage of his career, he started working as a maker of mathematical instruments. Over the years his substantial contribution in the field of mechanical engineering brought about an enormous impact on the 18th-century Industrial society with the introduction of the Watt’s steam engine. The engine popularised and began to be used in factories such as cotton mills, flour mills, canals and waterworks, and so on. In the year 1782, Watt invented the double-acting engine. The piston of this engine both pushed forward and pulled backward. In order to record the ratio of vapor pressure to volume, an indicator termed ‘thermodynamics’ was created. This title gives an interesting account into the life story of James Watt and portrays that despite life’s many hardships, he never failed to fulfil his dreams and became one of the world’s greatest inventor.
