Night of the Hunter: The Legend of Drizzt

I read all of the Drizzt books, and looked forward to this like anyone, but after I don't know how many pages of boring drivel about dark elf characters I have no interest in or attachment to and the author's excessive use of exclamation points I had to throw in the towel. I think he had a 7th grade kid write half of it. Sad.

It's Salvatore's ability to describe and bring to life the characters in his novels that makes him such an amazing writer. Throughout this book you'll get reintroduced to the scheming Dark Elves, their conniving yet subtle internal power plays, and their unquestioningly powerful place in the world of Toril. Night of the Hunter puts the reader through a range of emotions as the various battles unfold. At points you will feel saddened and enraged at the same time. Other times you'll be filled with overwhelming joy and enthusiasm as one of your beloved characters utterly decimates a nemesis...just like the old days (of Drizzt that is)! But most of all, you'll be left with questions and anticipation for the next book. I am very excited about the future of the Drizzt Saga, and dearly hope that Salvatore chooses to lengthen the journey of our favorite hero from the Uderdark, along with more than a few of his treasured friends (and not just the Companions of the Hall)!

The book was fantastic and had a plot that sucked you in very quickly. It is a bit confusing if this is your first book with Drizzit Do'Urden, as all of the character names and weapon names and house names can become confusing. Once you sort through the characters the book was great and a very quick read. Also be warned this is not a literary classic but a story that reads like someone retelling their most recent D&D campaign.
