About this ebook

New York Times Bestseller

Robert Lustig’s 90-minute YouTube video “Sugar: The Bitter Truth”, has been viewed more than three million times. Now, in this much anticipated book, he documents the science and the politics that has led to the pandemic of chronic disease over the last 30 years.

In the late 1970s when the government mandated we get the fat out of our food, the food industry responded by pouring more sugar in. The result has been a perfect storm, disastrously altering our biochemistry and driving our eating habits out of our control.

To help us lose weight and recover our health, Lustig presents personal strategies to readjust the key hormones that regulate hunger, reward, and stress; and societal strategies to improve the health of the next generation. Compelling, controversial, and completely based in science, Fat Chance debunks the widely held notion to prove “a calorie is NOT a calorie”, and takes that science to its logical conclusion to improve health worldwide.

Some of the biochemistry is above the nonscientific readers but still its easy to get the gist. This is a must read if at all your concerned about your health. Some of his conclusions are still being debated but his work is quite convincing.

It's time for more people to be aware what the food industry and our politicians are doing to our health in order to line their pockets at the cost of our lives. Great read. I wish there were more doctors like him, practicing real medicine and aware that what we eat is really the cause for most of what ails us. Instead of pushing meds on people doctors should advocate reform in the food industry and learn that real food is the best food for the body, not the processed crap that we find in our stores.

A compelling read tracing the background, current state, and projections for obesity in our homes and society. Very well done. A tough message. Unfortunately, it also clearly describes the roles the FDA, USDA, SNAP, WIC, and NSLP play without identifying a immediate way to voice feedback. The voice it does espouse to is at the cash register. Thank you, well done. Sad, Scary, but well done.
