But as part of the agreement when her father allowed her to live on land, she has to have her magic bound, unable to use magic. She got her brothers to stop fighting, then went to her room to read. The lights went out and the boys did not answer her calls. She opened the front door and a mist surrounded the house, so she stepped outside and carefully moved through the mist. Her grandmother had told her of an old legend where Immortals created fogs to hide themselves from humans when they walked on Earth. And sometimes humans were helped by “mysterious beings”, never knowing who had helped them. She called for her brothers, Jerry and Bruce. Her foot hit something and she bent down in the midst, finding her brothers unconscious. A dark shape, created from the mist, appeared and she was afraid. Because along with those old tales of humans being helped, there were also tales of the fàth-fiata bringing great harm and evil. Had something been done to her brothers? Something touched her face and whispered RUN, but she would not leave her brothers and something hit her head from behind as she crumpled to the ground. She awoke to the sound of voices. A man who said he was not human, Camdan, had kidnapped her but has no idea why except that it “felt right”? None of them knew where the Staran (ley lines) had taken them, except it was where they needed to be. Camdan said only one of “his kind” can use the Staran, so she would have to travel with one of them; however, until they have done what the Staran wanted them to do to fulfill their purpose, they won’t be allowed to leave. When she got angry at Cam who asked if she was a mermaid or selkie, she grabbed his throat and he immediately knew not only that she was a kelpie but was a member of the Royal family. How did he know? His two friends, Flint and Jared, want to help her discover the purpose for them being brought together since the Staran won’t let any of them leave now, preventing her from returning to Earth from her house in the Mists. If only the 3 sexy men would stop distracting her so she could think! What they will eventually find is that Prophecy states there should be seven Wardens, one for each element, to save the world. Jared is an incubus and EARTH. Camdan is a wraith and WIND, while Flint is also a wraith but FIRE, opposite element to Macey. Macey is a kelpie so her element is WATER. The prophecy says Lightening has been captured and Ice is on the way to rescue her, so once the others are together, Air will join them and they will be complete. Then they will find out how to fulfill their quest to save the world.

There is a LOT going on in these four books. Plenty of action and adventure, romance, and snark to go around. I like the world building and different types of characters and mythologies throughout the story. There are many species and cultures that I've never read about before, which definitely contributed to making these books unique and intriguing. I particularly like that the FMC is a kelpie - something I've yet to come across from any other authors (that's not to say they don't exist, it just isn't very common). Because the FMC is a kelpie, she has some unique powers and vulnerabilities that the author can play with in multiple ways, and again, it's uncommon and so does not sound like the "same old" that is easily available. One thing about the FMC, she is very indecisive in her behavior and outlook. It was like almost two different people at times, and it became somewhat frustrating as the two sides were in complete opposition with each other. That said, I still enjoyed her jabs and responses, and her courage when she jumped into the middle of things. The dynamic between herself and the other wardens is both interesting and entertaining. This great magical series is full of action, adventure, danger, mystery and suspense with a touch of romance. The author has done an amazing job building this world and its characters. Macey, a Kelpie Princess, discovers that she is one of the prophetic Wardens charged with saving the world with six others. As she comes to terms with being a Warden, she meets many interesting allies alone the way that causes her to question much of what she believed of other mythical supernatural beings. These books really grab you in leaving you wanting more, and I cannot wait to read what happens next in this series. I received this set via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
